The Mind's Eye Art Gallery Show
"Visions of Home: Finding Beauty in Humble Places"
Dickinson State University Mind's Eye Art Gallery show. Exhibition dates January 11 thru February 26, 2016.
Artist Statement: Darla Jean Hueske, Photographer
All my life, I’ve looked to this quiet land and my elders for inspiration and created many projects from their stories. “Visions of Home” is a body of work that I started last year.
I am a proud native of western North Dakota. As a photographer and graphic designer, my career has taken me to many places around the world. In 2013, I returned to the farm where I grew up, north of Richardton, just south of Marshall. It has been eight years since my father, Arnold, passed away. It was time for me to return to be with my mother, Rose, who was living alone on the farmstead.
I always say that just because I grew up on a farm, doesn’t mean that I know anything about farming. But, my adventures and hard work growing up in the country has greatly influenced my life and my art. Welcome to my sentimental journey through visions of beauty in the most humble places.
