On 1 July 2013, prior to the coup against President Mohamed Morsi, General Abdul Fatah al-Sisi, the Minister of Defense, issued an ultimatum to the government and opposition to resolve their dispute, or otherwise the military would intervene. After President Morsi's speech, on the night of 3 July 2013, General Abdul Fatah al-Sisi declared the ousting of President Morsi, hence suspending the constitution and appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, as the interim Head of State until new presidential elections.
